NEW BELGIUM BREWING OPENS LEED® CERTIFIED FACILITY IN ASHEVILLE
_______________
ARCO Beverage Group recently completed a 131,970 SF distributorship for New Belgium Brewing in Asheville, NC. The new facility is LEED® Silver certified.
Constructed with the health of both employees and the environment in mind, the facility uses nearly 27% less energy than a traditional building. During construction, more than 30% of materials were manufactured within 500 miles of the jobsite, while more than 80% of construction waste was diverted from landfills.
The facility features interior and exterior LED lighting, using 20% less energy than a conventional lighting system. The lighting system is complemented by warehouse skylights which diffuse natural light throughout the storage space, while protecting beer from direct sunlight.
Additionally, the comprehensive landscape design naturally captures rain water to avoid waterway pollution and erosion, and the building’s restrooms and kitchen are nearly 50% more water efficient than a typical code-compliant baseline building.
“Building with environmental health in mind aligns with our values as a company, so it was an early and quick decision to do the work to certify the buildings,” says Jay Richardson, New Belgium – Asheville General Manager. “Healthy work environments with natural lighting and ventilation and support for active lifestyles keeps our employees happy and healthy,” he says.
The distributorship also includes an 88,000 SF cooler, 36,000 SF controlled temperature warehouse and a 1,100 SF hops cooler.
ARCO is proud to have been a partner in creating this environmentally-friendly and efficient facility.
